YMCA of Delaware Welcomes New Dover YMCA Executive Director

Dover, DE– The YMCA of Delaware is pleased to welcome Dr. Thomas J. Rushton (Tim) as the new Dover YMCA Executive Director. As the Executive Director, Dr. Rushton will help the Y grow its community impact with a focus on new and enhanced programming for all ages and families, developing community partnerships, diversity/equity/inclusion, and excellent customer service and experience.

Dr. Rushton is the former Executive Director of the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI).  Prior to joining LCTI, he served as the Director of the Monroe Career and Technical Institute, the Principal and then Director of the Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School, and as the Assistant Principal of the Pocono Mountain West Junior High School. Before moving into a career in technical administration, he taught Biology and General Science for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. Prior to transitioning into education, he spent eight years in the Pharmaceutical Industry in sales, marketing/management, and consulting, and owned his own business.

Dr. Rushton earned a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Temple University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Scranton.

Each year, the Dover Y proudly provides nearly $250,000 in financial assistance, ensuring that everyone, regardless of income, has access to all the Y has to offer. In 2021, more than 150 children were able to attend summer camp at the Y thanks to financial assistance, and 325 children learned lifesaving water safety skills in swim lessons. The Dover YMCA features a state-of-the-art fitness center, one outdoor pool and two indoor pools, a full-size basketball gymnasium and more. Many programs are available at the Y including Kids Zone while you work out, swim lessons, summer camp, before and after school care, teen programs, free group exercise classes, personal training, and more.
