Wilmington, Delaware – After an extensive search, the YMCA of Delaware is excited to announce Francisco Zambrano as the new Community Executive Director of the Western Family YMCA. Francisco comes to the Delaware YMCAs with more than 20 years of experience. The first 12 years of Zambrano’s career saw him rise through the ranks of the YMCA of Peru from Camp Program Director to Chief Operating Officer.
In 2018, Francisco and his family decided to migrate to the US. In 2019, Francisco became the Executive Director of the Oscar Lasko branch of the Greater Brandywine YMCA. Most recently, Francisco was the Director of Family Support Services at the Latin American Community Center, providing support to the most needy families in New Castle County.
“Francisco is a tremendous addition to our Leadership team and I am thrilled to have a dedicated YMCA veteran with such an abundance of experience joining our Y,” said YMCA of Delaware President and CEO Jarrett Royster. “He brings a wealth of knowledge to our community and is dedicated to helping the Y make a positive impact and lasting change across the state.”
A bi-lingual South American native, Francisco Zambrano grew up in the YMCA of Peru. As a teenager, he participated in YMCA leadership training, and at 19 he began serving on the YMCA of Peru’s Advisory Board, a position he held through his early 20s.
During his time in Peru, Zambrano gained a global understanding of the impact and responsibilities within the YMCA movement, a wealth of cultural experience, and cultivated several relationships with other YMCAs throughout South America, Central America, Europe and North America.
Additionally, Zambrano founded the International Division of the YMCA of Peru. To this day, the International Division offers global service-learning programs that have welcomed over 500 youth participants worldwide and provided more than 150 Peruvian teens with the opportunity to learn about the American and German cultures.
“I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be back at the Y, a place where my roots run deep,” Zambrano said. “Growing up in the YMCA of Peru is where I found my passion for volunteering with children and youth programs. I’m excited to join this incredible team in Delaware to take the Western Family YMCA to even greater heights together.”
