Wilmington, DE – The YMCA of Delaware is excited to announce the 2024 Global Teens Trip to Kenya, a transformative two-week study abroad opportunity for young people in Delaware. In partnership with New Castle County, this program aims to develop international understanding, leadership skills, and cultural competency among youth, while providing service-learning opportunities.
The program is open to young people ages 16-19 who are current sophomores, juniors, or seniors in high school. Applicants must be available to travel during the last two weeks of July and to attend an interview, if requested. The application deadline is Sunday, March 17th.
YMCA’s Global Teens Program seeks to promote civic engagement and a deeper understanding of social issues on both local and global scales. It prepares young people to lead in the 21st century through service learning, virtual cultural exchanges with young people from the Nairobi YMCA, leadership development, and STEM education.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit sites such as the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Aberdare National Park, and local villages, providing comprehensive exposure to Kenya’s diverse landscapes and cultures. The goal of the program is to empower Delaware’s youth with a global perspective, leadership development, and practical STEM education and instructional skills.
