Western Family YMCA Unveils Renovations

Upgraded Gymnasium and Outdoor Courts To Enhance Member Experience

Wilmington, Delaware – The Western Family YMCA is excited to announce significant renovations to its basketball gymnasium and outdoor pickleball courts, designed to enhance the overall experience for members and the community.

The outdoor courts have been transformed with new asphalt and a professional acrylic playing surface specifically designed for pickleball. The newly resurfaced area now includes six state-of-the-art pickleball courts equipped with lighting for evening play. These upgrades provide a first-class outdoor facility for both recreational players and those looking to improve their pickleball skills. The courts are open now and accessible for members Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Pickleball, a fast-growing sport in the United States, has become increasingly popular at the YMCA. The addition of professionally designed courts at the Western Family YMCA will cater to this growing demand, further establishing the Y as a leading community hub for wellness, sports, and recreation.

In addition to the outdoor courts, the gymnasium is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade, including brand-new flooring, a fresh coat of paint, upgraded lighting, and new protective wall pads. The court will be re-lined for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, offering a multi-use space that will accommodate various sports and activities for members of all ages. Renovations to the gymnasium begin on Monday, October 21st, and are expected to be completed in late December.

“The improvements to the gymnasium reflect our commitment to providing a top-tier fitness experience for our community,” said Francisco Zambrano, Western Family YMCA Community Executive Director. “With the growing demand for pickleball and youth sports in a safe setting, we’re thrilled to offer our members enhanced spaces that promote healthy living, teamwork, and fun.”

Members are encouraged to come and experience the new facilities, whether for organized sports leagues, casual play, or to join one of the many group activities that will be held in these newly upgraded spaces. Daily guest passes are available for non-members to try out the new amenities.
