Wilmington, Delaware—The YMCA of Delaware is proud to announce the launch of BrainSavers®, brought to you by One Pass, a new Healthy Living initiative designed to support vibrant aging through an evidence-based, holistic approach. This dynamic, instructor-led program enhances physical and cognitive health, empowering individuals to maintain vitality, resilience, and independence.
BrainSavers integrates six essential elements of brain-body wellness:
- Social Engagement
- Cognitive Fitness
- Physical Fitness
- Healthful Nutrition
- Stress Management
- Quality Sleep
Dr. Paul Bendheim, a board-certified neurologist and clinical professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, founded BrainSavers to promote brain health and reduce cognitive decline. An expert in degenerative brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s, he recognized early on that lifestyle changes are key to prevention—a groundbreaking approach that continues to shape the field.
According to the American Psychological Association, modest physical exercise can help individuals maintain their cognitive abilities as they age. Numerous studies have shown that physically active older adults tend to perform better on cognitive tasks—such as reasoning, memory, vocabulary, and reaction time—compared to those who lead sedentary lifestyles. Physical activity is one of the six core pillars of BrainSavers®.
The Y is committed to improving the health and well-being of every individual and family across Delaware communities. Through the BrainSavers® program, participants can work toward healthier outcomes while fostering meaningful connections with fellow community members.
Participants will engage in an interactive curriculum featuring physical activity, fun and engaging brain and memory-strengthening exercises, and wellness strategies tailored to promote physical and cognitive health.
