Despite many hardships, RJ Waiters’ optimism is striking.

Three years ago, RJ faced a life-altering challenge when he lost his leg. However, this event is just one chapter in a life filled with adversity, including periods of incarceration and homelessness. Yet, RJ’s spirit remains unbroken.

In November 2023, RJ moved into the Central YMCA Residence in Wilmington, Delaware, where he continued his journey of growth and independence. The Central YMCA Residence has been a critical stepping stone for RJ as he regains stability. Dedicated staff and community partners connect him to resources to help him find his way.
