Middletown YMCA – Jessica Frederick

Jessica Frederick’s world changed overnight when her cousin passed away suddenly, and she was given custody of her three children.

As a single parent, now caring for four kids, Jessica was struggling to make ends meet. A few years later, she found the YMCA and was thrilled to be granted financial assistance. This allowed her and her children access to a YMCA membership, and the array of programs including Before and After School care (BASE), summer camp, and the Learning Support Center. “As a single working parent, finding safe, supportive, and enriching programming is a huge obstacle,” said Jessica. “The YMCA provides just that, and I couldn’t be more appreciative of the care that their staff has given to my boys over the years.”

Count Jessica among the thousands anticipating the opening of the new Middletown YMCA branch. She’s excited for even more options for her kids to socialize with friends, learn about healthy habits, and grow.

Jessica hopes her story inspires others in a similar situation to seek help through the Y: “Don’t be afraid to just go to the Y. Just walk in the door and ask what their programs are and how you can be a part of it. They will make you feel at home.”
