Welcoming Week 2022

We’ve all experienced moments where we felt like we didn’t belong, but there’s more that unites us than divides us. This Welcoming Week, we will join Welcoming America, other YMCAs and organizations nationwide to celebrate immigrants’ contributions to our communities, and bring together all residents in a spirit of unity. Belonging Begins With Us, and together, we celebrate the shared values that unite us as neighbors, parents and colleagues.

During Welcoming Week 2022, stop into any Delaware YMCA to help us celebrate, or join us for one of the events listed below.

Western Family Y Great Human Race 5K & International Food Festival

Sunday, September 25th,  10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Join us in partnership with the West Wilmington Seventh Day Adventist Church, as we get to know one another and celebrate what unites us as a community. Walk or run in our 5k, plus enjoy a variety of foods from around the world, and entertainment for the entire family including international games, special global performances, moon bounce, photo booth, raffles and more!

Welcoming Week Panel Discussion

Ever wonder what immigrants, refugees and newcomers go through when they move to Delaware? Take a look and hear first-hand the opportunities and challenges they face. It’s a chance for neighbors – both immigrants and U.S.-born residents – to get to know one another and celebrate what unites us as a community.

Panelists included YMCA staff, members, and volunteers from Peru, China, India, Moldova, Kenya, and Scotland. Bring your curiosity and learn how we can make Delaware more welcoming!
