The YMCA of Delaware has partnered up with the Davis Phinney Foundation to offer Pedaling for Parkinson’s™.

The Pedaling for Parkinson’s™ program is based on research indicating that forced exercise on a bicycle can reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s. In fact, participants who ride three days a week over eight weeks have shown improvement in their Parkinson’s-related symptoms by as much as 35%.

    • Classes are currently offered at the Middletown and Dover YMCA’s. *Participants must have a diagnosis of Parkinsons and be cleared by a physician.

2024 Classes

April 8th – July 5th

  • Middletown: Monday, Wednesday & Friday | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Dover: Monday, Wednesday & Friday | 1 – 2 p.m.

What is Pedaling for Parkinsons?

Who can participate?

  • Anyone with a Parkinsons or a Parkinsonism Diagnosis who has been medically cleared by a doctor and can safely participate.

Where will it take place?

  • Middletown YMCA: Monday, Wednesday & Friday | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Dover YMCA: Monday, Wednesday and Fridays | 1 – 2 p.m.

When does the program start?

  • April 8th – July 5th
  • There will be an orientation 1 week prior – you will receive an email from your coach to schedule.

What does the class include?

  • The class will include a 10 minute warm up, 40 minutes of steady cycling and a 10 minute cooldown and stretch.
  • With program registration you will receive a family membership for you and the family members in your houesold (2 adults & Up to 4 children).

How do I register?

  • Registration is through the healthy living department only. Branch staff will not be able to process the registration.
    • Fill out the interest form on the PFP page of our website. You will receive and email with the medical clearance form. Once the clearance form is submitted you will receive your registration and membership forms to be completed. Finally you will receive confirmation that you are registered and ready to go!
