MLK Day Events And Free Open Houses

Wilmington, Delaware – The YMCA of Delaware invites the community to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with special events and open houses aimed at fostering unity, service, and community spirit.

MLK Prayer Breakfast at the Middletown YMCA

Featuring recording artist and songwriter Ashli Rice and elected officials, including U.S. Representative Sarah McBride and Delaware State Representative Rae Moore

Kick off the celebrations on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, with the MLK Prayer Breakfast at the Middletown YMCA. This inspiring event will feature food, fellowship, and prayer. The Prayer Breakfast, free and open to the community, aims to provide a meaningful space to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of equality, unity, and service, aligning with the Y’s core tenets.

Free Open Houses at All YMCA Locations
On Monday, January 20, 2025, all YMCA of Delaware locations will open their doors to the public with free MLK Day Open Houses. These family-friendly events will showcase the Y’s commitment to strengthening the community. They will include access to state-of-the-art facilities and fitness classes, fun activities for kids and families, and opportunities to learn more about the Y’s mission to strengthen the community.

Participating locations include:

Walnut Street YMCA Service Project, “Dream Garden Cleanup” & MLK Birthday Celebration
The Walnut Street YMCA will host an MLK Jr. Service Project, “Hattie M. Phelan Community Dream Garden Cleanup,” on Monday, January 20th, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Following the cleanup effort, the Walnut Street Y will host the 36th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Party from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. This event is open to the community. These events aim to unite community members to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy, celebrate the rich history of Black culture in the community, and assist in keeping Wilmington beautiful.
